Naftalan – the world famous balneoterapevtichesky resort located in 360 km from the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku. The city is located in the foothills of a northeast slope of Lesser Caucasus, on river banks Naftalan.

Its main value is a medical Naftalan oil. But oil this unusual, it doesn't contain petrol fractions (gasoline, kerosene) therefore it doesn't burn, but a large number of minerals, such as zinc, copper, iodine, bromine, manganese and specific hydrocarbons is its part.

And it gives it surprising medicinal properties which were found by people a lot more centuries back, and actively use them still.

Officially the resort of Naftalan was founded in the twenties the 19th century. Initially oil fields were developed by the German engineer E. I. Eger for fuel production. But during developments it was found out that this oil as fuel isn't suitable at all. The observant engineer paid attention that locals use oil for a wrapping and acceptance of bathtubs. Without having other alternative to avoid complete bankruptcy owing to the unsuccessful oil project, all efforts were directed on studying of structure and properties of this dirt.

Soon E. I. Eger constructed small factory on production and conversion of naftalanny dirt on which glory quickly expatiated out of borders of the country.

Since then Naftalan occupied one of leading places in medical tourism around the world.
